Multitude
about the project
Multitude is an album about the full weight of being human — depression, suicidal ideation, gender dysphoria, the condition of being born into circumstances you didn't choose. For each song, Stromae inhabits a different life. We all contain multitudes. The redesign starts from one question: how do you make that feel close? These themes can seem extreme, distant — things that happen to other people. So the cover becomes a drone shot over a square in Ostia — a crowd of anonymous figures, seen from above. Scattered through the frame, a few highlighted in yellow. Random, almost careless. Because in a crowd this size, someone is always carrying one of these stories. It might be the person next to you. It might be you. Open the case: the crowd becomes a pattern — figures repeated, contoured, stripped of context. Remove the disc: the pattern disappears. One person remains, small, alone in the upper corner. You only notice the solitude once everything else is gone.
